Ryan was born and raised in Missoula, Montana and the Bitterroot Valley. They attended Hellgate High School, graduating in 2012. In 2013, they began their schooling at the University of Montana. They were introduced to the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department through a media literacy course focused on gender and sexuality. Through their WGSS studies, Ryan found a passion for advocacy work, specifically working with gender minorities and other marginalized groups. Xe served as a co-director of the UM Women’s Resource Center from 2015-2016. In 2017, they graduated from the University of Montana with a BA in WGSS and minors in Psychology and Media Arts. At this time, Ryan began looking into the funeral industry. They saw disparities in how cisgender people were treated in death versus how transgender and non-binary individuals are treated. In order to advocate for trans and gender nonconforming folks in death, Ryan decided to pursue a career as a funeral director. As of February 2021, xe has finished xeir coursework at the Pittsburgh Institute for Mortuary Science.
