PRIDE! Board of Director's Responsibilities

The PRIDE! Board of Directors collectively has three legal obligations as directed by state law. These are to see that PRIDE!:
- Operates for its stated purposes (as indicated by its Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws);
- Is financially solvent and properly manages its assets;
- Complies with all laws, particularly those related to tax and employer status.
In addition to these, the board is responsible for hiring, evaluating and firing the executive director.
PRIDE! Board of Directors also should be:
- Committed to securing the constitutional right to privacy, equal protection and dignity of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender individuals.
- Committed to diversity and multi-culturalism within the organization and community.
The PRIDE! Board is a working board. In addition to fulfilling the legal obligations and philosophical commitments stated above, the Board is expected to make policy decisions affecting PRIDE!'s directions, activities and operations. Board members are asked to volunteer their energies and time towards PRIDE!'s growth and development. Three to five hours of volunteer time per month is considered a minimum commitment. Substantially more time may be requested at certain times of the year.
Specific responsibilities of individual PRIDE! Board Members:
- Be a PRIDE! member in good standing.
- Demonstrate an open and affirming position as a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender individual--
this includes being publicly identified as such.
- Participate in PRIDE! programs and activities.
- Attend all regularly scheduled Board meetings.
- Consider participation a priority and discuss inability to participate in advance with a co-chair or executive director.
- Participate in PRIDE! fund raising efforts that are best suited to the individual board member.
These may include: personal solicitations, grant writing, membership recruitment and retention,
grassroots events, fund rasing activities, etc.
- Act as a liaison to local PRIDE! groups.
- Act as a liaison to lgbt and other social change organizations.
- Make what is for you a meaningful financial or in-kind donation to PRIDE!
- Be committed to the consensus decision-making process.
