BREAKING NEWS/EVENTS BASIC EQUALITY Discriminating against lesbians and gays is bad for business, harmful to students, and tarnishes our state image. The Montana Human Rights Act protects minorities from discrimination in the workplace, education and public accommodations. PRIDE is working to amend this Act to include "sexual orientation" under its umbrella of protection. FREEDOM TO MARRY Marriage discrimination is the most pervasive and blatant form of anti-gay bias, affecting virtually every lesbian and gay person. PRIDE champions the right to love, benefits of civil marriage, and lesbian and gay families, with an aggressive statewide education campaign. Coming soon to a venue near you! LESBIAN AND GAY YOUTH Montana youth are consistently challenged by anti-gay bias and harassment. PRIDE seasonally hires a youth intern to deliver programming and resources to youth across Montana. Annual GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) summits assist youth in accessing and creating support networks, understanding their rights, coming out and speaking out. BIAS CRIMES Bias-motivated crimes are designed to send a threatening message to an entire community. Montana's Malicious Intimidation & Harassment Act reserves stricter penalties for those criminals who target their victims because of the victim's minority status. PRIDE is working to amend this Act to include "sexual orientation" in its coverage. |
