GLBTI Liaison Officer Leaves to
Train Afghan Police

After much thought and planning, I decided to accept a one-year training assignment with the U.S. State Department in Afghanistan. Partly because of my role as the GLBTI Liaison Officer, I was contacted and asked to assist training Afghan police officers in human and civil rights, ethics, diversity and basic police operations.

My experience teaching democratic police work will be unique and I will bring home a valuable new perspective to my job and community. I will return with more acute problem-solving skills and a profound appreciation for the role of law enforcement at all levels of a democratic society. I look forward to the challenge and the experience I will gain.

I have asked Missoula Police Officer Nicole Pifari to take over my position as the GLBTI Liaison Officer while I am away, and she has graciously accepted. I have had the opportunity to work directly with Officer Pifari, and I know her to be courteous, respectful and professional. I have no doubt in her abilities and I know she will serve the position well in my absence. If you need to speak directly with Officer Pifari, her email address is npifari@ci.missoula.mt.us. Her voicemail ONLY # is 552-2298 and the general switchboard is 552-6300. As always, if you need immediate assistance or are in any danger call 9-1-1.

I truly appreciate the cooperation and support I have received from the Missoula community since my position began over one year ago. I am extremely proud of this position and hope I have not let anyone down. I plan to return in one year and continue working with the GLBTI community.

I wish you all the best in the New Year and will see you when I return.

Stay safe!
